plants

Mr. Willis, together with Mrs. Linnebur and Mrs. Will's 6th Grade class, have been diligently cultivating a variety of plants in preparation for their plant sale, which is scheduled to coincide with the STEAM Fair on May 2nd. The acquisition of a greenhouse this summer was an exciting development for Mr. Willis, who was eager to utilize it for the project. Building on the success of last year's variety, this year they've expanded their selection to include plants like peppers, pumpkins, and jalapeños, in addition to a range of common houseplants such as jade and succulents . This hands-on approach to learning has been thoroughly enjoyable for the students, capturing their interest and providing a dynamic alternative to traditional classroom education.

Horticulture, which encompasses both the art and science of cultivating plants, has fully engaged the students. They have dedicated a significant amount of time and effort into this subject, according to Mr. Willis, who is immensely proud of their achievements. However, he notes that the most challenging part lies ahead: ensuring the survival of all the plants. Maintaining them requires daily watering, and at times, twice a day. sporutsplants

The addition of the greenhouse has brought much excitement to this project. The students have also contributed to enhancing the area by assisting with the landscaping around the greenhouse and in the native flower beds. All these activities are conducted in the outdoor classroom area at the back, where, weather permitting, students are given an hour to take their work outside. Teaching in unconventional spaces like these is often crucial in fostering a love for learning among students.
