Welcome to the Halstead Middle School website! I am excited to get started with the new year and welcome back all of the wonderful students and families that make up our building. Our vision at HMS is "Working together to empower all students". That guiding principle will be the focal point of our work at HMS. We have a rich tradition of excellence and will continue building on that already solid foundation. Faculty and staff will continue the work of ensuring that our building is an environment that exposes students to a variety of learning styles in order to meet their individual needs; establishing emotional and physical safety in the academic learning environment; building positive connections between students, their peers, and adults; and helping students build skills that encourage them to value effort, persistence, and life-long learning. Students will be expected to follow the guidelines in our student handbook and adhere to the SHRR behavior expectations: Safety, Honesty, Respect, Responsiblity.
Partnership between school and home is essential to the success of our students. The most important part of that partnership is communication. I encourage parents and teachers to have open lines of communication to ensure that issues are dealt with quickly and effectively so learning can continue and positive relationships are maintained. Respect is paramount with communication and I expect our staff and parents to engage with one another respectfully in order to maintain a positive learning environment for everyone.
We have so many wonderful things happening at HMS and I encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunities our staff works to provide. We invite you to attend concerts, athletic events, parent/teacher conferences, or volunteer opportunities that are advertised throughout the year. Our families have so much to offer our school and we want you to be a part of all the great things we are doing here!
I am honored to be the building leader at HMS and I look forward to working with our students and their families to maintain the standard of excellence that has been established at HMS. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please don't hesitate to reach out to me via phone or email.
